Description :
Hawkers were thriving and prosperous in the past century. And they are still part of the street culture in Hong Kong, including their smell, street cries and cooking demonstration. However, the government started to restrictions included safety considerations, lack of hygiene, poor image and the occupation of common areas. The number of hawkers decreased rapidly. The characteristics of hawkers only remain in our memories. Leaving behind on the modern street are the same soulless pattern of shops repeated everywhere.
We believe few people wish to see Hong Kong’s local color fades. However, there is no persuasive solution to let the government support the hawkers. For this reason, The main aim is to maintain the contribution of hawkers in Hong Kong’s street culture. In order to achieve this, improving the operating environment of hawkers in Hong Kong and reduce the damaging effects on the environment and pedestrians during the operation of hawkers are required.
